“The mornings were
glorious. Up around sunrise or so, I remember the scent of fresh air
filtered through huckleberry bushes and dry pin-oak leaves. And the
distinct aroma of our propane-fired Coleman stove. That little metal
stove would clink and clank and rattle as Dad pumped the miniature
red fuel tank. I couldn’t wait to eat. Watching the blue flames and
hearing its low hiss, I’d stand close enough to feel its heat. Dad
cooked pancakes and Taylor ham ...
...
Huck Finn would’ve
loved this place. This was my Mississippi River, complete with
hideouts, fictional bad guys, and general adventure. And it had a
cast of characters…”
Lots of things at Baker’s Acres have changed since we opened our
gates in 1968 but we will always remain the place, “Where Friends
Are Made for Life”. Read more of “Sunday
Night at Camp” by long time camper, Brian Wick. |

Perhaps one of the most
extraordinary things about camping is the variation experienced by
placing oneself in direct contact with nature. One place, however
similar in geographical proximity or types of foliage can be made
distinct by a lone tree or a curious badger (an interesting story
there). There is something magical about this place, something
unique, and the people who run it have a warmth and a genuine love
of what they do that shows most in the details. The upkeep is
immaculate but the atmosphere relaxed, allowing the camp to retain a
personal quality that many larger locations lack. You are able,
simply, to experience the joy of being in such a beautiful place
without any of the hassle that is now, unfortunately and often,
associated with camping of this kind.

If you have the time, go. If you don’t, make it.

Special
Comments from a Long-Time Seasonal Camper |
|
Dear Jack, Mo, the entire
Baker family and Staff at Baker’s Acres,

As you know, we sold our camper. Mike and I wanted to take the time
to write a letter of appreciation for all the wonderful years here.
There are not enough words to express our thanks for many years (10
plus) at Baker’s Acres Campground. It is hard to believe how fast
the years have gone by!

When we first became seasonal, our sons were 16, 12 and 10 years
old. Through the years we have enjoyed not only the camping but all
the activities too. I remember we could not wait for the season to
start! Memorial Day Weekend we never missed! We also especially
loved Dixieland Afternoon with the band and the cookout. Every year
the band would sing Happy Birthday to Paul because I would request
it! The boys loved the hayrides and the activities too. And the pool
with lifeguards Monica and Nikki … what fun! We had many campfires
and, after the kids grew up, Mike and I would have quiet campfire
evenings together listening to music and sometimes even slow dancing
by the fire.

There are a lot of things that make Baker’s Acres special. Baker’s
Acres gave us the opportunity for family time and to build
relationships with people like us. Mike and I have friends there.
Our neighbors, Mike and Loe, Mike and Donna and family were great!
Even today, our children are still friends with people that they met
from the campground. It was wonderful to watch the Baker kids grow
up, too.

It was sad to sell our camper, but it was time. I am so grateful a
family bought it because now they can enjoy what we had. Our family
had so many wonderful times at Baker’s Acres.

Thanks again to all: Mo, Jack, family and staff for the many good
years. We will always remember. Also, Jack a special thanks to you
and the staff for driving the golf carts around at night. It always
made us feel safe.

Sincerely,

The Giuglianotti/D’Andrea Family

P.S. Thanks for all you do. You do make a difference in this world. |

My family and I have been
going to Baker’s Acres for years, and we look forward to many more
years to come. We have made many memories. I think your motto
definitely suits the campground. One year we met two young boys and
their caring and sweet father. We met them when we were at the
playground. We went with them back to their trailer, and the kids
played together while their Father and I sat on the porch and
talked. The next day, they invited us to go with them to a nearby
lighthouse. It was truly spectacular. To this day, we are still
friends. Thanks so much for allowing us to have such a wonderful
time. We look forward to coming back this year in August.

Baker’s Acres was fun, clean
and friendly. Our family had one of the best vacations in years. We
definitely intend to return in the near future.

Everyone was very
accommodating. This was my family’s first camping experience and it
was very enjoyable. The campground was everything that was
advertised and our family really enjoyed itself. We will continue to
use Baker’s Acres when we go to the Jersey Shore in the future.

We absolutely enjoyed every
moment we were at your campground. The staff was friendly and
helpful. The sites were nice size and (we) loved watching the
different birds traveling thru them. This was one of the most
enjoyable trips we’ve taken in a while. We will definitely be back
to Baker’s Acres again.

Good
morning, this past weekend was our first stay at Bakers Acres and it
was a wonderful camping experience... the staff was so nice and
friendly first of all. The campsite was very clean and loved
the little exhibits thru out the site (we took lots of pictures). We
already have reservations to come back the 4th of July weekend with
neighbors... (looking forward to that).

We love the Peace and Beauty
of Baker’s Acres and the Baker Family. We like watching everyone
grow up and we’re waiting for “little Monica”.

We appreciate your help and
consideration in the past few years. For example: coming to help us
with a trapped deer. We feel very comfortable with knowing your
presence is there 24-7.

My family and I stayed at
your campground this weekend during your Wet Hayride. I have to tell
you, we had such a great time. The kids absolutely loved being able
to have a campground-wide water gun fight, and I have to admit that
even my husband and I enjoyed it. It was so awesome to see you guys
come out and participate too; Mr. Baker had the kids and I laughing
with his scrub brush! This is the first year we were there for this
particular activity, but I think my kids will kill me if we don’t
come back for it from now on! We also had a lot of fun at Surprise
Bingo… we didn’t win anything this time, but you can be sure we’ll
be back to try our luck. Thank you again for the wonderful time we
had, and please tell all of your employees that everyone was so nice
and polite; it was like being home!

I wanted to take a
moment to thank you and your staff for the great time our group had at
Bakers Acres. We really enjoyed our stay and everyone from my department
was very impressed with the way that the campground was run, as well as
maintained. The camp sites that you provided us with were secluded
enough, and were of ample size! Next year I will pass this information
along to the person in charge and let them know that this is a great
place to hold our little time away from work. Once again, thank you for
all your time – and hopefully we can visit your establishment again next
year for our little retreat. P.S. – Your Hawaiian night was a blast!

We’re so glad we tried this campground. We
have been coming to Jersey at least once yearly for 19 years. This is
the most comfortable and “home type” camping place we’ve stayed. Next
time we come we can pack light and enjoy your campsite to the max.

We have camped at
Baker’s Acres for over 25 years. When camping at
Baker’s acres it is like being with family. We
enjoy the activities on the holiday weekends.
Especially on Labor Day Weekend when the Country
Band plays so we can do our dancing. On
Dixieland Afternoon it is so much fun listening
to the band, eating and socializing with the
other campers. We also recommend your campground
to other campers when we stay at other
campgrounds. Sometimes it is hard to put into
words how much fun we have at your campground.
It is so nice just to relax and do nothing.
