A Short Story by Long Time Camper Brian Wick
“Sunday Night at Camp″
“The mornings were glorious. Up around sunrise or so, I remember the scent of fresh air filtered through huckleberry bushes and dry pin-oak leaves. And the distinct aroma of our propane-fired Coleman stove. That little metal stove would clink and clank and rattle as Dad pumped the miniature red fuel tank. I couldn’t wait to eat. Watching the blue flames and hearing its low hiss, I’d stand close enough to feel its heat. Dad cooked pancakes and Taylor ham …
… Huck Finn would’ve loved this place. This was my Mississippi River, complete with hideouts, fictional bad guys, and general adventure. And it had a cast of characters …”
We planned our trip last minute and on a
whim and I have to say we had the best time
ever!!! The camp sites are spacious & clean
and can accommodate most any type of camper!
We were so impressed with the quiet time
rule & how everyone around us just seemed to
settle in around 11:00PM. It's the perfect
time to just sit & unwind by the camp fire &
listen to the sounds of nature instead of
the daily hoopla of everyday life! The kids
had a great time as well...at the pool,
playground, arcade, playing with the other
kid campers and then taking a ride on the
evening hay ride! The convenience store
offered just about anything one may have
needed or forgotten and the staff was super
friendly! Bakers Acres allows pets which
offered us an opportunity to experience a
true “family vacation” without the worries
of having to leave our new pup MiMi behind.
We love, loved, LOVED the Saturday farm
tractor that drove around selling fresh
produce, honey & fruit...WHAT AN ABSOLUTELY
AWESOME IDEA!!! Also, we attended the
Spaghetti Dinner & wanted to say THANKS to
the staff & volunteers for all of their hard
work & efforts...everything was so nice &
delicious! We look forward to camping with
you again Bakers Acres but this time we will
be looking into making longer-term
reservations! A+++++ all the way! Thank you
Bakers Acres for the perfect family get
away!
Sincerely, April, John, Mylam, Maylen & MiMi
too!
My family
and I have been going to Baker’s Acres for
years, and we look forward to many more
years to come. We have made many memories. I
think your motto definitely suits the
campground. One year we met two young boys
and their caring and sweet father. We met
them when we were at the playground. We went
with them back to their trailer, and the
kids played together while their Father and
I sat on the porch and talked. The next day,
they invited us to go with them to a nearby
lighthouse. It was truly spectacular. To
this day, we are still friends. Thanks so
much for allowing us to have such a
wonderful time. We look forward to coming
back this year in August. Christine, Clyde, Kaya, Emma, and Lou
Jean
We’re so glad we tried this campground. We
have been coming to Jersey at least once
yearly for 19 years. This is the most
comfortable and “home type” camping place
we’ve stayed. Next time we come we can pack
light and enjoy your campsite to the max. The
Chessers
We
absolutely enjoyed every moment we were at
your campground. The staff was friendly and
helpful. The sites were nice size and (we)
loved watching the different birds traveling
thru them. This was one of the most
enjoyable trips we’ve taken in a while. We
will definitely be back to Baker’s Acres
again. Marvin and Doris Henion
Dear Jack, Mo, the entire Baker family and
Staff at Baker’s Acres,
As you know, we sold our camper. Mike and I
wanted to take the time to write a letter of
appreciation for all the wonderful years
here. There are not enough words to express
our thanks for many years (10 plus) at
Baker’s Acres Campground. It is hard to
believe how fast the years have gone by!
When we first became seasonal, our sons were
16, 12 and 10 years old. Through the years
we have enjoyed not only the camping but all
the activities too. I remember we could not
wait for the season to start! Memorial Day
Weekend we never missed! We also especially
loved Dixieland Afternoon with the band and
the cookout. Every year the band would sing
Happy Birthday to Paul because I would
request it! The boys loved the hayrides and
the activities too. And the pool with
lifeguards Monica and Nikki … what fun! We
had many campfires and, after the kids grew
up, Mike and I would have quiet campfire
evenings together listening to music and
sometimes even slow dancing by the fire.
There are a lot of things that make Baker’s
Acres special. Baker’s Acres gave us the
opportunity for family time and to build
relationships with people like us. Mike and
I have friends there. Our neighbors, Mike
and Loe, Mike and Donna and family were
great! Even today, our children are still
friends with people that they met from the
campground. It was wonderful to watch the
Baker kids grow up, too.
It was sad to sell our camper, but it was
time. I am so grateful a family bought it
because now they can enjoy what we had. Our
family had so many wonderful times at
Baker’s Acres.
Thanks again to all: Mo, Jack, family and
staff for the many good years. We will
always remember. Also, Jack a special thanks
to you and the staff for driving the golf
carts around at night. It always made us
feel safe.
Sincerely, The
Giuglianotti/D’Andrea Family
P.S. Thanks for all you do. You do make a
difference in this world.
Dear Baker's Acres, Jack, Mo and crew,
thank you for your hospitality. Phil and
I were impressed with how organized and
clean your campground is, you really
have a great crew and are inviting to a
very friendly family oriented group of
campers. Our grandchildren are young, so
we take them camping close to home, it's
easy access for the parents. We thought
your campground was the best place we
ever stayed in New Jersey and we
wouldn't go anywhere else. The boys had
a great time at Wet Hay Ride and went
home exhausted, what more can you ask
for. Thank you again and we'll see soon. Sue and Phil
